Canal II, Venice

Back in the day, Venice wanted to be surrounded by water, to get a natural protection against enemy attacks. The entire city’s foundations were made of larch and oak wood, submerged and set in the mud. Sea salt and lack of oxygen have petrified them over the years. Everything above is as beautiful as it looks here.
